I miss the explanation about why this is bad web design

Do you need one? Did you hear about usablity, common sense, the 10 rules of web design…

Some of these just aren’t that bad – there are a few that, although they fall well short of “stand-out” designs and don’t align exactly with modern design customs, are perfectly usable and far from visually offensive.

What?!!???!? who do you think MAKES

Bogdan, well… depends what you class as bad design.

My site is designed to make money, and last year I rented over £35 million of new cars in the UK at retail prices… that is an income in excess of $500,000 (from my “badly” designed website) … just so people in the USA get some idea of scale. To me, that means my website design is VERY successful. Not sure why it is “BAD”?

I prefer to measure good design in money terms rather than some spurious opinion. Who or what is “TopWebDesign Mag”? I can’t see any indication on this website of the company info, as I was going to check out your own design success. But, all the info seems hidden :(

Most designers have no cloe about how to make a website make money, they are often lost in their apple -mac world.

      Hi Ling,

Don’t take it personally, design is design and how your website / business works is for me a different thing.

It’s Bogdan’s opinion and I’m sure that you understand very well that we don’t discuss tastes. I like it but Bogdan doesn’t like it. So what ? You can’t make all the people happy.

This website is TopDesignMag not how you name it and has succes, don’t worry for us.

I wish you the best and maybe in the future we will make business or at least help each other.

      Best regards,
      Alexandru

I actually think some of these pass in terms of good design which is not just the “aesthetic” but several things such as structure, hierarchy and communicating visually the intended message. While citydeli.com is not the most appealing design in terms of flair and Ps tricks, it does pass the test of communicating very well what the product is. The navigation is clear and you know immediately upon landing on the site what the biz is about. I think all of this speaks to “good design” even if it lacks in “eye candy”.

I agree Michelle. These sites are forgetting the most important point of making a website – to provide information and service; not for pure advertisements and stuff. The design in these sites are totally too cluttered, flamboyant and.. well, retro. If you plan to keep a website, imitate those social network sites by always updating your web design to keep it modern. Make it look professional and try to arrange the whole outline. Finally, websites are all about providing info and services, not for totally, over-the-top advertisement!

Most of these are legitimate, but it’s wrong to list a satirical piece like yvettesbridalformal.com as bad web design. Their goal is for a laugh at bad web design.

Haha, this is very funny. I was searching for some nice web design inspirations and then this pops up. Great collection and really useful. I see a lot of such websites in Norway. People think it’s enough to publish a bunch of text or pictures or both at the same time  and that’s it. Thank You for this article – it makes me feel better st least.

Some of them are not THAT bad. I have seen worse websites. Besides, during validation I find some having older language versions being used so considering that, I think they are O.K.

I agree that those designs are really bad. I actually laugh at some designs like the first examples. It is like pasting pictures that they find on google.
